Coastal Zone Foundation names Daniel Culican as newest Certified Coastal Practitioner

Fort Myers, FL – The Coastal Zone Foundation (CZF) is pleased to announce that Daniel Culican has earned the designation of Certified Coastal Practitioner™ (CCP) professional credential.

Earning the CCP designation distinguishes Culican as having a broad knowledge base and understanding of the interrelationships that exist among different coastal professions.

Daniel Culican earned his Bachelors of Science and Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from Buffalo State College, his Master’s in Engineering Management from Rowan University and an additional Master’s in Coastal Engineering from University of New Orleans.

During Culican’s 15 years in the field, he has aided owners and engineers in the proper design of polyethylene intake structures, diffusion manifolds, water tunnels and culverts between oceans, bays and estuaries.  One of Culican’s focuses has been the proper installation of pipelines and conduit lines for subaqueous installations for applications, such as water, telecommunication, and offshore wind. Throughout Culican’s career he has worked from Long Island, New York, New Jersey and the Delaware Bay on dredging and beach renewal/coastal navigation projects.

One notable project that Culican has worked on was Gowanus Canal’s oxygenation transfer system, which was installed to protect the local biology and ecology of the canal. The Gowanus Canal project was a success and was awarded project of the year by American Public Works Association and featured in Clearwater Magazine and Times Magazine

To earn the CCP credential, candidates must complete a series of 10 short courses offered by the Coastal Zone Foundation in cooperation with the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA). The CCP program provides participants with multidisciplinary instruction on comprehensive coastal management and defines the body of knowledge, which reflects best practices for coastal practitioners.
