The Coastal Zone Foundation’s Orville Magoon Academia Award seeks to cultivate tenure-track professors or other early-career academics by sponsoring their attendance at ASBPA’s National Coastal Conference. The award is focused on young professors or post-doctoral associates in coastal fields, such as engineering, geology, biology, and other related disciplines. The award will reimburse conference expenses such as travel, lodging, expenses and registration fees up to a cost of $2,500.
Applicants shall include answers to the following (form below):
- A brief statement why they are interested in the award.
- A brief description of their current and past research interests, along with a brief summary of their career stage.
- A syllabus of courses they are currently teaching, along with the number of students they are currently instructing, if applicable.
- Provide an abstract of the paper accepted for the ASBPA National Conference.
- Will the applicant be interested in presenting a CZF short course at this conference or some future opportunity? (This could be a new version of an existing course or developing a new course if one on that topic is not currently offered.)
The CZF selection committee will consider the following:
- Career stage of applicant (with those earlier in their career given preference).
- Number of students that the early-career academic is teaching or mentoring.
- Ability of early-career academic to increase exposure of CZF and ASBPA.
- Willingness to develop and present a CZF short course.
An applicant will only be eligible to win this award once.
