Fort Myers, FL – The Coastal Zone Foundation (CZF) is pleased to announce that Timitope Idowu has received the 2026 Orville Magoon Academia Award. The Orville Magoon Academia Award cultivates early career academics by sponsoring their travel to attend the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association’s (ASBPA) annual National Coastal Conference.
Idowu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Old Dominion University. His current research focuses on sustainability, resilience and adaptation looking at coastal flood modeling, monitoring nature-based solutions, investigating the prevalence of microplastics in sediment, and tracking shoreline change.
“Orville Magoon’s legacy of bridging coastal engineering, management and the practitioner community mirrors precisely the kind of scientist-practitioner I aspire to become,” said Idowu. “It [is] an honor to receive this award and to carry forward Orville Magoon’s example of service to the coastal community.”
The Orville Magoon Academia Award is selected once a year in the Fall. The Award is focused on early career academics in coastal fields such as engineering, geology, biology, and other related disciplines. Applicants are only eligible to win this award once. Specific submission requirements are announced in the spring in conjunction with the initial Call for Abstracts for the ASBPA’s National Coastal Conference.
