Coastal Zone Foundation names Makana Nova as its newest Certified Coastal Practitioner

Fort Myers, FL –

The Coastal Zone Foundation (CZF) is pleased to announce that Makana Nova, AICP, has earned the designation of Certified Coastal Practitioner™ (CCP) professional credential.

Earning the CCP designation distinguishes Ms. Nova as having a broad knowledge base and understanding of the interrelationships that exist among different coastal professions.

Nova works as the Coastal Planning Manager at the County of Orange (CA), OC Parks. In just over a year at OC Parks, she has helped support beneficial sand re-use for Orange County and facilitate coastal erosion engineering projects at County-owned beaches. Prior to that, she worked as a local municipal planner for 15 years at the City of Newport Beach, CA.

Nova has a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, an undergraduate degree in Environmental Analysis and Design, and a minor in Education all from UC Irvine. She became certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) in 2013. She is experienced in processing complex development projects, CEQA analysis, and coastal development permits including large residential projects, mixed-use development, habitat restoration, and Public Works CIP projects.

Last, but not least, Nova is looking forward to continuing to specialize and hone her career as a Certified Coastal Practitioner (CCP) and appreciates the wide variety of disciplines that this certification teaches.

To earn the CCP credential, candidates must complete a series of 10 courses offered by the Coastal Zone Foundation in cooperation with the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA). The CCP program provides participants with multidisciplinary instruction on comprehensive coastal management and defines the body of knowledge, which reflects best practices for coastal practitioners. To date, 26 professionals have earned this certification.
